How Chris Cunningham uses media language in Leftfield's "Afrika Shox"

  1. You make some rather wild generalisations in an another wise clearly organised case study.

Slide 1: Good point about the establishment of the genre but I'm not sure that the lights of the police car bring joy to the mise-en-scene! Also Leftfield were visible before the recording of the music video. and were influential in the development of electronic music in the 1990's. Do check you make inaccurate comments.

Slide 3: You make some useful points about the relationship between the lyrics and the visuals, particularly regarding the skyscrapers as symbols of white domination in the USA economy.

    Points to develop:

    1) On your last slide you list inter textual references but that is all, you do not explain how these intertextual references add further meaning to the narrative. For example consider why the African man is represented as a zombie. What does that say about the position of African Americans in the USA. This type of representation suggest Africans are the "other", or "different" or "aliens" thus reinforcing the focus on institutionalised racism in the USA.

    2) You must endeavour to engage in independent research, particularly with regard to the links I gave you in the first power points I sent you all. This will help you avoid waffle and inaccurate statements.

Overall, reflecting minimum-basic understanding of media language. I suggest you develop the last slide.
